How to Clean an Electric Stove Top

How to clean an electric stove top

An electric stove top can be a beautiful and eye-catching addition to a kitchen. And no matter how much it is used, cleaning it regularly will make it appear as though it has never been touched. However, not everyone knows how to clean an electric stove top.

The good news is that there is no intricate cleaning technique or even expensive cleaners that you have to buy to make it look so stunning. In fact, most of the supplies are probably already in your house!

Here is everything you need to know on how to clean an electric stove top.

Supplies You Need

Before you can get started on cleaning your electric stove top, it is very important that you have all the right tools. Without them, you could risk damaging the surface of the stovetop. So gather up the following, and then let’s get started.

Baking soda

Vinegar

-Dish soap

-Soft towel

-Sponge

-Warm water

-Glass cleaner

Step 1: Remove Coils and Drip Pans

For those stoves that have coils and drip pans, go ahead and remove them. Use a sponge and warm soapy water to wipe down the coils. Rinse and let dry. Do not submerge coils in water.

As for the drip pans, remove any loose food particles and debris and submerge the drip pans in a sink of soapy water for about 20 minutes or so. Then, remove, rinse, wipe them off, and set them aside. Should any grease or food particles remain stuck, use your sponge to gently remove them. Soak longer if you need to.

Both of these can be placed aside until you finish cleaning the stove top.

Step 2: Create Baking Soda Paste

Create a baking soda paste and apply it to the stove top. This paste can be created using three parts baking soda to one part warm water. Mix until you have the consistency of a paste, and then apply to your stove top.

Let it sit for about 5 minutes. This will give it time to break down any residue or stuck-on food found on your stove.

When the time is up, wipe the stove with a soft towel. Whatever you do, don’t scrub with force or you may risk scratching the stove’s surface.

Step 3: Use Glass Cleaner

Once you have removed all the baking soda, use glass cleaner (or, if preferred, soapy water) and clean the stove top to remove anything left behind – and to make it shine.

Replace your burners and coils if you have them – and you are all done. It is really that easy.

Remove Burn Marks From Glass Stove Top

Burn marks left behind on the stove can be an eyesore for the unit. You want to get rid of them, so your stove can look great once again. Good news – there is a simple fix for that, too. You will create a paste much like you did when cleaning the stove, except this one is going to be a bit stronger.

Mix together two parts vinegar and one part baking soda to create a paste. Because the vinegar is more acidic, the two ingredients will react more with one another and cause a reaction that will work to break up the burn mark.

Do not scrub the marks as you don’t want to risk scratching the top. If you go to wipe away the mixture and you still see it has some work to do, leave it or reapply and let it sit longer. You may find you have to repeat this process a couple of times.

Degreasing an Electric Stove Top

If you have ever tried to wipe off the grease that has been caked on your stove top for some time, then you know the best you can usually do is to smear it. It looks terrible. Thankfully, using the right elixir, you can wipe it clean once and for all.

Turn on the burners for a minute to heat them up just a little bit. Pour a little bit of warm water on the stove, and then add baking soda. Let it sit (with the burners off) for a minute or so. Use a soft cloth to wipe up the water and baking soda.

Next, add dish soap to a soft sponge and gently scrub the area if needed. Wipe it up with a clean, dry towel.

This usually should take just one attempt, but if your grease is piled on thick, you may need to repeat.
